About This Position
We are seeking an enthusiastic, creative, and highly organized team member to contribute to our climate adaptation and resilience projects. Examples include preparing climate adaptation plans, Safety Elements as part of focused or comprehensive general plan updates, and resilience plans.
The position offers the opportunity to take on a range of responsibilities, including policy writing and research, technical analysis, community engagement, and business development. The ideal candidate will be comfortable with historic and projected climate hazard data and understand and be able to conduct social vulnerability and risk assessment. The candidate will assist with public outreach and participation, including preparing for and facilitating community meetings and advisory committees and developing educational materials. Responsibilities also include climate adaptation policy development and research of precedents and best practices that advance the field.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in environmental science, planning, or closely related field
Minimum of 1 years of relevant work experience on climate projects, such as resiliency strategies, climate adaptation plans, or General Plan Safety Elements
Writing, research, and policy development for climate adaptation
Excellent written and oral communication skills
An understanding of climate science
Experience conducting vulnerability/risk assessments, and an understanding of Senate Bill 379
Experience working on public engagement programs in diverse communities
Proficient with Adobe Creative Suite for graphic design, document layout, and diagram development
Experience using ArcGIS
