Seeking a Comprehensive Plan Project Manager to join our team!

About the Position & Firm

R+A is hiring a Comprehensive Plan Project Manager with 8+ years of relevant work experience in urban planning and/or urban design in the public or private sector. The candidate will managing large community planning efforts, such as General Plans, Specific Plans, master plans, and zoning codes. We are looking for a dynamic leader with a vision for creating sustainable and equitable communities.


R+A is a mission-driven planning, policy, urban design, and research firm with offices in Berkeley and Los Angeles, CA. We bring a multidisciplinary approach to planning, design, policy, and applied research. To address the complexity of communities, R+A integrates interrelated disciplines — land use and urban design, sustainability and green building, public health and equity, and community engagement — into planning and applied research efforts.


Responsibilities

  • Managing large community planning efforts, such as General Plans, Specific Plans, master plans, and zoning codes.

  • Developing project scopes, schedules, and budgets, and managing these effectively over the course of multi-year planning processes.

  • Leading inclusive public engagement efforts.

  • Preparing proposals and supporting advance marketing.

  • Managing staff and subconsultants.

  • Educating and mentoring junior staff.


Skills and Experience

  • 8+ years of experience in planning and/or urban design.

  • Experience managing and preparing innovative General Plans, Specific Plans, Precise Plans, master plans, comprehensive zoning code updates, Form-Based Codes, and other planning documents.

  • Knowledge of the nuts-and-bolts of planning, urban design, and zoning in the California.

  • Understanding of current best practices and regulations relative to General Plans.

  • Experience preparing community engagement plans and leading successful public outreach and participation programs, especially in diverse communities.

  • Proven commitment to incorporating sustainability, health, and equity into planning.

  • Experience with business development including proposal writing and advance marketing for new projects. Ability to cultivate lasting relationships with clients.

  • Willingness to travel throughout California and the United States.
