Seeking a Housing Policy Specialist to join our team!

About the Position & Firm

R+A is hiring a Housing Policy Specialist with 5+ years of experience. In this essential position, you will be responsible for leading or assisting with our growing housing policy practice. You must be able to take initiative, work independently, be an excellent communicator and collaborator, and represent the firm professionally.


R+A is a mission-driven planning, policy, urban design, and research firm with offices in Berkeley and Los Angeles, CA. We bring a multidisciplinary approach to planning, design, policy, and applied research. To address the complexity of communities, R+A integrates interrelated disciplines — land use and urban design, sustainability and green building, public health and equity, and community engagement — into planning and applied research efforts.


Responsibilities

  • Preparing Housing Element updates, housing needs and constraints analyses, and conducting housing site inventories and fair housing assessments.

  • Analyzing housing needs, conditions, constraints, and trends.

  • Writing, research, and policy development for planning documents.

  • Developing and assisting with public engagement activities, including workshops, focus groups, and committees.

  • Managing or helping to manage housing projects.

  • Business development, including writing proposals and advanced marketing.


Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in planning, public policy, urban design, or other housing-related fields.

  • Knowledge of land use planning (General Plans, Specific Plans, zoning codes, CEQA).

  • Experience with California housing policy is required.

  • 5+ years of relevant work experience, including experience working on a variety of housing-related projects.

  • Experience leading community engagement activities such as focus groups and community workshops.

  • Fluency in spoken and/or written Spanish is highly desired but not required.
