Thousand Oaks Downtown Master Plan
Thousand Oaks, CA
Description
Raimi + Associates is working with the City of Thousand Oaks and a multi-disciplinary team of subconsultants to create a vision for Downtown Thousand Oaks. Located approximately 35 miles northwest of Downtown Los Angeles, Thousand Oaks is a traditional auto-oriented suburban community and as such, lacks an area that residents can call their town’s center.
The proposed Downtown Core is a half-mile section of Thousand Oaks Boulevard, one of the main arteries in the City. This area includes the City’s Civic Arts Plaza which houses City Hall and a large regional performing arts theatre with adjoining parking structure as well as a shopping center. The area also contains a three-acre parcel owned by the City that is ripe for redevelopment. These assets are key building blocks for the creation of Downtown which will be a robust, walkable, entertainment and experience-oriented center of activity in the Conejo Valley. The plan creates a vision and identity for the area, design strategies for the public realm, and implementation strategies and actions for decision makers to undertake to make Downtown Thousand Oaks a reality.
R+A is leading a targeted community engagement effort working with the community and stakeholders as well as business owners, residents and land owners. Aspects of this outreach effort include an online community survey, focus group meetings and several pop-up workshops.
