Raimi + Associates is working with the City of Selma to develop the Selma Downtown Strategic Plan. Selma is located south of Fresno, at the intersection of State Route 99 and State Route 43, and has an economy anchored by its agricultural sector, a regional auto mall, and resident- and visitor-serving retail and services. Downtown Selma is situated at the center of Selma - with the Union Pacific railroad running through the western portion of the Downtown area - and is home to the Selma Arts Center and many of the city’s services and offices. R+A is leading a team to develop a community vision to encourage the revitalization of Downtown Selma and position it for short-term economic recovery and long-term vibrancy. The visioning process is centered around a multi-day community charrette to bring together staff, stakeholders, technical experts, and the community to develop a vision and implementation strategies for Downtown Selma. The plan will include short- and mid-term implementable strategies for place-making, creating a gateway into the downtown, improving pedestrian infrastructure, encouraging appropriate infill development, and fully utilizing the business improvement district to create a vibrant downtown that reflects both the history and the future of Downtown Selma.
